Local Libertarian featured in political economy week

GROSSMONT COLLEGE (Press Release) —  Political Economy Week, Oct.24 to 28, will include an appearance on campus by Richard Rider, chairman of San Diego Tax Fighters, an advocacy group. Rider will speak from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26, in Room #575. The title of his speech is “Is California Doomed? Short Answer: Yes.”

A longtime Libertarian Party activist, Rider is known as a passionate government watchdog and supporter of tax-cutting ballot initiatives. He was appointed as the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association’s 2009 California Tax Fighter of the Year.

Grossmont College faculty members Joseph Braunwarth, Brian Jennings, Todd Myers, Shahrokh Shahrokhi and Scott McGann also are scheduled to deliver speeches throughout the week.

Topics will include capitalism, market fundamentalism, financial instability, California propositions, labor unions, video gaming, medicinal marijuana, Occupy Wall Street, the Tea Party and the rise of China.
