Online voting for Grossmont College’s student government elections begins Monday April the 7th.  Electronic ballots will be sent to all Grossmont students through the e-mail account that they provide when registering for classes.  Students will have 48 hours to follow the link and submit their ballot.

All candidates were allowed to begin their campaigns March 26th and may continue through April 5th.  The Summit has obtained a list of each candidate and they position they are running for, as well as a brief message from each candidate, from the Student Services department.

Here now is the information on the students running for student government:

Certain people train their entire lives to be the best at it and others practice hours on end to perfect it.  What is “it”?  “It” is an individual’s niche, whatever one wants to be the best at.  Leadership is “it” in my case.  While in high school I joined the NJROTC where I learned how to make quick decisions under pressure and lead my peers, which is still one of the toughest things to do.  I enlisted in the Marines and honed my leadership.  I joined the ASGC my first semester at Grossmont and I am devoted to becoming an outstanding student leader.  I have not mastered the art of leadership but I am confident I can lead the Associated Students of Grossmont College to new heights.

Currently I am President of the Latino Caucus, an organization that represents all Latino students in the Community College System and President of the Associated Students of Grossmont College, Inc.  These opportunities only came after I got involved here at Grossmont by my time in 7 clubs here on campus and becoming a Board Member for the ASGC, Inc. I see the value in how students can garner these opportunities from being involved on a campus level. As Vice President I will lower the barrier of entry for students getting involved and leave the campus better than I found it.

I am rerunning for Student Trustee because I have experienced first-hand the potential of the student voice at the district level.  Now that I am more situated and familiar with the governing structure, I feel empowered to continue establishing positive change for the students of Grossmont College.  This year I look forward to improving the structure for our existing students and working to ensure their success.  As Student Trustee, I will advocate the colleges’ mission from focusing on Student Access to Student Success?  So remember VOTE Zack G for Student Trustee!

Dhaha NurA student trustee is the voice of his peers; therefore it is necessary to diversify our representative student body to effectively communicate the needs of students. College is also an experience; I plan to enhance this journey for others with insightful thinking, coupled with dedication and determination. I am very enthusiastic to join ASGC; I know I will benefit the most, all the while giving life to the thoughts of my peers. With concern and preparation, all our thoughts and actions united could make a difference for generations to come.

    Miguel M. Gonzalez

My name is Miguel M. Gonzalez and I would like to run for the Executive Secretary of Student Legislation.  As a member, servicing our students has been a great opportunity to know what it means to be a student leader. Being already the interim ESSL of this organization will enhance the quality of my work and improve for the upcoming semester.

I am certain that I meet the qualifications for the Comptroller position due to my past experiences and personality.  Although I’m 18 years old, I have years of experience in leadership positions.  In the last year I have run two network marketing businesses, I’ve had 3 jobs and I’ve been serving on the board at ASGC for the last two semesters so I’m quite familiar with the organization.  As my time as a board member I’ve put the Interests of the ASGC and the students before mine and many times I exceeded the normal amount of office hours required to be in the ASGC.  That being said, I believe that not only am I qualified for the position that I am running for, I am also committed to the success and prosperity of the ASGC.
