Looking ahead to Oct. 20 earthquake drill

GROSSMONT COLLEGE–Just before 10:20 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, an artificial rumbling sound will emanate from the Main Quad of the campus to emulate the sound of a large earthquake.  The sound effect will be created by Grossmont Professor Jim Papageorge and his class in the Media Communications Department as part of the “Great California Shakeout” earthquake drill.

At 10:20 a.m. alarm bells will signal to instructors that they should begin their in-class earthquake drills.  The procedure for everyone inside is to drop to the floor, roll under a desk or table for protection from falling debris, and to hold onto the desk until the “shaking” stops.

Thereafter, in orderly fashion, all classrooms and other campus areas will evacuate to outdoor areas set aside for this purpose.   Following are the evacuation areas:
