Suicide prevention clinic planned Nov. 9

GROSSMONT COLLEGE (Press Release)–Sara Glasgow, director of student activities, is urging members of the Grossmont College community to learn how to prevent suicides during a special presentation at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Griffin Gate.

“Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR–“Question, Persuade, Refer” —  learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to help. This hour-long training is based on the philosophy that three simple steps can help save a life.

“As a QPR-trained Gatekeeper, you will learn to:

·       Recognize warning signs of suicide

·       Know how to offer hope”

Glasgow said the free program is open to “anyone in a position to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide.  All are welcome, but an RSVP is required.”

To RSVP: Contact Juliette Harrington in Student Health Services at [email protected] or x7195 or to Glasgow herself in the Student Affairs Office [email protected] or at x7159.

“This program,” Glasgow added, “is made possible through the San Diego County Suicide Prevention Council in collaboration with the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, Community Health Improvement Partners and OptumHealth.
