GROSSMONT COLLEGE – After working as an aviation mechanic for more than five years, Joy Helsing became a student again.
“People will sometimes become unhappy with their current work environment and want something better out of life,” the nursing student said.
Helsing said that she at first felt out of place as an older student, but added that she was able to regain her focus and concentrate on her goal. She has achieved the status of licensed vocational nurse and has aspirations to obtain a Master’s degree.
Her advice is that all students should strive to accomplish their goals, especially those who are returning to college later in life to learn new skill sets. Nobody should be afraid to go back to college, because learning is human nature.
Perhaps the Greek philosopher Heraclitus was right when he declared ages ago that “the only constant in life is change.”
