Keeping Doors Open: The importance of talking to University Representatives

       IMG_0778

They sit in the quad outside of the Griffin Center in the hot sun or under an umbrella. They will politely do anything to get your attention since they are doing their best to represent their school. These dedicated individuals are university representatives, alumni, and fellow peers, encouraging others to seek their college out when GC students are ready to transfer.

Grossmont College students can feel free to embrace every learning opportunity available to them, but a fact is that not all Grossmont students are only Grossmont students, and not all will graduate from Grossmont either. This could be because many students transfer to universities, but also the fact that not every major a student might be seeking is offered on campus.

For this reason, at least a few times a week Grossmont students see University reps on campus. Most reps are willing to answer any questions one may have, as well as snag an email real quick to send a student more information about their potential options. Some University representatives even come to visit from out of state, and some alumni have free goods to give away as well.

Many students choose to walk on by pop-up tents, umbrellas or information booths. That’s understandable when class starts in fifteen minutes, on the opposite side of campus, but the more questions and information a student can equip themselves with, the better an
understanding they could arrive at when deciding what they would really want to pursue in life.Perhaps the first female president, or doctor with the cure for cancer, is just waiting to talk to a university rep that could start the path off to changing lives.
