Students will deliver a variety of monologues at ‘Inside the Actors’ Process’ Friday and Saturday

GROSSMONT COLLEGE— Have you ever just sat and watched a play? Hopefully the farthest thing from your mind during the performance  was wondering what it took  to make that play happen.  But what was the process the actors undertook to portray their roles? How did they get chosen for those roles in the first place?

The answer is that the whole show is a process. Creating sound designs, designing costumes, and rehearsing scenes all take time.   For the actors, however, it all starts with the audition monologue.  It’s their chance to shine over all the others to get that dream role.

I had an opportunity to speak with Jerry Hager, the director of ‘Inside the Actors’ Process.” When we first met I was hoping for just a little insight into what this showcase is all about; what I got was so much more. This showcase is not just a group of actors performing monologues, although it does have that. It is a fascinating exploration of what it takes to craft a jaw- dropping, tear- jerking performance .

This cast of Grossmont students has had a chance to perform at some of the high schools in the area. However, on Feb. 4 and 5 the public has the opportunity to see this show at the Stagehouse Theatre on Campus. This  will give you the opportunity to see this process in action. There will be personal monlogues, comedic monologues, dramatic monologues, and a duet of two conflicting monologues. What  I would consider the most intriguing of all may be the ensemble chorus of the entire cast performing one monologue together.

So if you are looking for something new and fun to do this Friday or Saturday come check out “Inside the Actors Process.”  You may get a little insight into the world of acting and what it take to “perform your heart out.”
