GROSSMONT COLLEGE (Press Release) — A 50th anniversary fundraising celebration starting at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, will be held at the college’s Health and Sciences Complex, the newest building on the campus. The public is invited to attend.
Proceeds from the silent and live auction will benefit the Grossmont College Griffin and Dreamkeepers Funds through the Foundation for Grossmont and Cuyamaca Colleges, the recently formed fundraising organization that supports students and educational programs at Grossmont and Cuyamaca Colleges.
“Fifty and Fantabulous” is the theme of the fundraising celebration. Guests are encouraged to dress in the attire they may have worn as a college student, whether it’s the peace beads of the 1960s or the acid-washed jeans of the 1980s. The event will be mostly held outdoors, so dress accordingly. A brief program will begin at 7:15 p.m., followed by a live auction and “raise the paddle” activities. Dessert and coffee service is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
Hors d’oeuvres and other food samples will be available at various food stations, as well as desserts. Also located in different areas of the two-story Health and Sciences Complex will be displays of photographs, memorabilia and videos chronicling the college’s 50-year history, as well as performances from students, including guitar players, dancers and Gospel Choir singers. Guests will be able to enjoy listening to their favorite pop tunes heard during the previous five decades. The event is part of a year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of Grossmont College, which began classes in 1961.
