GROSSMONT COLLEGE — While I am a full-time student at Grossmont College, I also serve as a partial caregiver for my sister’s two charming children. While I am here at school they are at home with my bedridden sister. In need of a daycare for them, I recently visited the preschool that Grossmont has here on campus.
I talked to Angie Gish, who is not only a teacher for the child development classes here on campus, but also the coordinator of the child development center. She said the center takes students’ children from the ages of six months to kindergarten.
While there is sometimes a waiting list, the center began accepting applications at the beginning of this month to enroll new children in the program. It is not too late to apply, and if your children are accepted they will receive a free education at the center. It would be relaxing to know that while you are here, your children are not that far away from you, as you learn and prepare for the future.
At the center the teachers who work with your children will remain with them until they are ready for kindergarten. The teachers that Gish has on her staff are well trained, and most have at least 15 years of experience under their belt.
As a demonstration site for the PITC (Program of Infant and Toddler Care) the center has at least 400 visitors come to watch how their site works. It is a training site for other teachers. Gish said they have one of the best programs south of Los Angeles County.
To be able to qualify your children for the school, you must be a student at Grossmont College, with a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0, and must be taking at least 6 units, with an educational plan. If you are like me, and are taking partial care of any children, they could become eligible provided that you have legal confirmation of you partial guardianship over them.
Act quicklyt because this is a great opportunity for you and the children, not to mention that you will be saving gas that otherwise might be needed to take them to another school.
