Ever thought about playing football instead of doing flag football? Now here’s your chance.
The San Diego Rebellion is a women’s football team in the Women’s National Football Conference. The season has eight games from late March to mid May with playoffs in June. The Rebellion’s home games are played at Escondido High School.
The league is the highest level that there is, with three divisions totaling 17 teams, each team consisting of 50 players in the roster, allowing everyone on the team to go onto the field and play.
“We do really good rotating players and the vets need a break, so that’s when the rookies come in and play,” Monica Johnson, a player from the Rebellion said.
The tryouts are held in November and January and it is open to all levels and the best part is that there is no age limit in this league. You can either be 18 or going into your late 50s to play.
“I was interested in playing football because the Olympic Committee made Flag Football an Olympic sport for the 2028 games in Los Angeles,” Amani El Amin, a current football player and a former basketball player at Grossmont College, said over the phone.
Some of the players look up to the current NFL players like Saquon Barkley, Stefon Diggs, Keenan Allen, Joey Bosa along with a slew of other players and hope that one day, they can be great, maybe even better.
The Rebellion’s schedule starts on March 29 and ends on May 17. Playoffs will be from June 5-8 with the championship game on June 20-22.
The website is WNFC Football and the games are shown online on Victory+. They’re also on Instagram at sandiegorebellion.
