NEWTON CENTRE, Massachusetts (USANN4)–A struggling Massachusetts college has reached a deal with creditors to eliminate $32 million in debt. The Boston Globe reports that Hebrew College is selling its campus, designed by Moshe Safdie, an internationally acclaimed architect, which it moved into less than a decade ago. The college plans to lease space at neighboring Andover Newton Theological School.
Hebrew College offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Jewish education, plus other programs. Last year, the college was on a list of institutions that failed the U.S. Department of Education’s test of financial strength. Hebrew’s president, Rabbi Daniel L. Lehmann, said the deal will allow the school to continue operating and growing.
