GROSSMONT COLLEGE — The Grossmont Men’s Basketball team has had a rocky season since its opening game on November 12. Thbe team is currently without a win, with a record of 0-5.
Grossmont recently hosted the 39th Annual Grossmont Men’s Invitational Tournament, but lost in two close, competitive games.
In their first game of the tournament on Friday, Dec. 3, Grossmont narrowly lost to Cerritos, 66-64 . With two seconds left on the game clock, Cerritos’ Darious Williams put back a miss that gave them a two-point advantage. Grossmont players “who lead for most of the second half, got 11 points and 6 rebounds from Martin Thomas,” the school’s athletic department website reported.
In the second tournament game, Grossmont fell to Cypress 83-80. loss. The athletic department’s website reported that “Cypress held off a furious Grossmont rally in the second half to advance to Sunday’s Consolation Final. Andre Winn canned 7-of-8 free throws en route to a team-high 20 points. Grossmont’s Chris Hepperly lead all scorers with 24 points.”
WIth only two returning players, the college has fourteen freshman and four sophmores. The Griffins visit Palomar College on Friday, Dec 10th at 5:00 pm.
