AUSTIN, Texas (USANN4)–Can you imagine getting a college degree for only $10,000? If Texas Governor Rick Perry has his way, it could eventually be a reality. The Chronicle of Higher Education reports that Perry is calling for the state’s schools to develop a four-year baccalaureate degree that costs no more than 10 grand.
Texas’ commissioner of higher education says the plan is doable. Several plans for a stripped-down degree include statewide online courses, more opportunities for students to spend their first two years in community colleges, and accelerated and self-paced course formats. Some skeptics question whether the plan is possible or even desirable.
