People at Grossmont College – along with the country – anxiously awaited the verdict of the Derek Chauvin trial Tuesday.

“We, the Jury, in the above entitled matter as to Count Two, Third Degree Murder Perpetrating an Eminently Dangerous Act, find the defendant guilty,” read Judge Peter Cahill, reading the jury’s decision in the prominent trial, reached on Tusday afternoon.

Yesterday, Grossmont’s Interim President Marsha Gable hosted a Reflection Space on Zoom. Members of faculty and students were invited to share thoughts and experiences, and to offer support to one another with the comfort of confidentiality. Gable will be hosting another Reflection Space on Friday; students may register here.

The same day, the Health and Wellness Center also reflected on the verdict during their weekly Wellness Wednesday Zoom meetings. This meeting had a similar concept to Gable’s; however, there were mental health counselors available to talk to students. The Wellness Wednesday meetings recur weekly.
