GROSSMONT COLLEGE– It is strictly a coincidence that the Mexican holiday known as the “Day of the Dead” falls on U.S. Election Day, Tuesday, November 2.
“The Day of the Dead is an ancient festivity transformed through the years, which was intended in pre-Hispanic Mexico to celebrate children and the dead,” according to a flyer distributed on campus by World Arts and Cultures.
“The best way to describe this Mexican holiday is it is a time when families honor and remember their dead and the continuity of life.”
On the Grossmont campus, a 20-minute movie, Rites of the Day of the Dead will be shown at 12 noon at Griffin Gate, Building 65.
Additionally, pan de muerto (bread of the dead) and other refreshments will be served. The Spanish Club is hosting the event.
Sounds like a good way for nervous political candidates to get their minds off the election.
