NOTRE DAME, Indiana (USANN4)– Notre Dame’s athletic director says a gust of wind preceded an accident that left a junior film student dead. Declan Sullivan was filming football practice from a hydraulic lift Wednesday when it toppled over and crashed. Sullivan, a 20-year-old, was a junior from Long Grove, Illinois.
Lifts such as the one Sullivan was in extend to about 40 feet. Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said he did not know how high Sullivan was when the machine fell over. The university says it will review its policy for using lifts. Athletic officials at the University of Wyoming and the University of North Carolina said they will look at adopting policies for video lifts.
