BERKELEY, California (USANN4)–For the first time, a public university is joining the $50,000-a-year club. The Chronicle of Higher Education reports that 100 institutions are charging $50,000 or more for tuition, fees, room, and board in 2010-11. Ninety-nine of them are private schools. The lone public school is the University of California at Berkeley.
Cal is charging out-of-state residents $50,649 for tuition, fees, room, and board. The price for in-state students is only $27,770. Just two years ago, only five colleges charged over $50,000. The Chronicle analyzed data released last week by the College Board.
