Fashion Through College Student Perspectives

The cold season calls for a change in wardrobe while succeeding academically.

Adjusting to the cold weather can be intimidating if your wardrobe only has summer outfits. Luckily, fall’s favorite neutral colors are brown, beige and yellow, and they are easy to combine. This makes it easy to create a lovely outfit for a college student’s fall style. It does not matter if you follow trending styles, as long as you know how to rock them and make it your own.

As a student, it can be overwhelming to put together a nice outfit that is unique but also comfortable. An easy way to combat this universal issue is by creating a visual board on what you desire your semester outfits to look like. Social media platforms: Instagram, Tumblr and Pinterest offer a variety of styles for any look you are endeavoring to master. You can aim for a style through clothing, accessories, hairstyles and more.

For instance, if you have academic stress, don’t add more by trying to be up to date with current fashion trends. The simple way to relieve this stress is to find your inspiration or muse. Using applications such as Pinterest or Tumblr can help you visualize the look you’re striving for.

“I use Pinterest to come up with outfit ideas,” said Erica McDougall, a student at Grossmont College.

A college fashion sense can be easy with a combination of neutral colors. As more students begin to show up to in-person classes, students are more open to showing off their best outfits, including shoes. This can potentially proceed to exchanges between one another, with genuine questions regarding your outfit or accessories.

On a regular morning, on my way to class, I viewed multiple New Balances (current trend: 2000s inspired) with different unique color palettes and patterns.

Gisselle Alvarado said she loves her New Balance 2002RD in a sea moss color. She paired the shoes with sweats and a crew neck short-sleeved crop tee.

“This is my favorite go-to combo,” Alvarado said.

Creating an outfit for the colder season can be simple: A warm, cozy jacket layered with comfortable pants or leggings. Achieving this look can be unisex.

Jordyn Quinn, a sophomore at college, said he shops online for windbreakers with adjustable fabric to keep him warm and cool for men’s clothing. “Northface, Urban Outfitters and Carhartt offer the best clothing for the winter,” he said of these brands that can also be unisex.

Though scholarly achievement is vital in college, being confident in your attire can increase the probability of focusing on your studies. At Grossmont College, there are also fashion-related career opportunities. For more information, contact Jennifer Bennett, the department chair of Visual Arts and Humanities ,at  [email protected].
