NEW YORK (USANN4)– A former vice president of a Roman Catholic institution has pled guilty to embezzling money. Marie Thornton, who served as a formervice president of finance at Iona College, acknowledged taking more than $850,000 from the school, according to a news release from the U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan.
Thornton’s sentencing is scheduled for May 13th. She could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000, or twice the gross gain or loss from the offense. Iona, which has 4,800 students, is located in New Rochelle, New York.
