U-Conn Spring Weekend arrests drop

STORRS, Connecticut (USANN4)–An effort to curb partying during the University of  Connecticut’s Spring Weekend was successful.  School officials said they made only 17 arrests over the entire weekend from Thursday to Easter Sunday.  That’s down from the 84 made last year .  U-Conn officials have tried to reign in the unsanctioned event for years.

Efforts intensified following the death of a student last year.  Officials called for a moratorium on the event and asked students to go home over the weekend.  The university banned guests awt dorms and dining halls this year and set up road blocks around the campus.
