Feds forgive struggling college’s debt

ALTANTA (USANN4)–A historically black college in Atlanta has reached an agreement with the federal government to settle millions of dollars in debt.   The Associated Press reports that the U.S. Department of Education will forgive most of Morris Brown College’s $9-point-4 million of debt.   In return, the institution must pay the remaining $500,000 it owes.

The deal will help Morris Brown move closer to regaining accreditation.   The debt represents years of unused federal aid that the school failed to return to the government.
