GROSSMONT COLLEGE (Press Release)–A Baroque Christmas concert, including the music of Schütz, Corelli, Handel, Biber and Johann Sebastian Bach, will be performed by the Grossmont College Symphony Orchestra and Master Chorale on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at the All Saints Episcopal Church, 625 Pennsylvania Ave., in San Diego’s Uptown District, and on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, 8086 Broadway, Lemon Grove. Both performances begin at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Admission is free, however a free-willing offering will be held at both venues.
The performances will feature the Grossmont College Master Chorale, select musicians from the Grossmont College Symphony Orchestra and soloists Michael Dvoskin on violin, contralto Martha Howe, tenor Matt Kirk, soprano Audra Naby, baritone William “BJ” Robinson and soprano Pauline Tweed. Selections will include “The Christmas Story” by Heinrich Schütz, “Mystery Sonata No. 1” by Heinrich Ignaz Biber, “Christmas Concerto, Op. 6 No. 8” by Arcangelo Corelli, “For Unto Us a Child is Born from George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah” and “Magnificant in D Major BWV243” by Johann Sebastian Bach.
